Joint Pain
Joint pain or arthralgia can have many different causes. Unusual exertion or overuse can cause a strain or sprain of the tissues surrounding the joint. Osteoarthritis, caused by the wearing away of the cartilage between the bone joints, is the most common joint disorder. It causes swelling and pain in the joints and is mainly attributed to aging. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes joint pain and stiffness. Another cause of joint pain is bursitis, or inflammation of the bursae. The bursae (bursa, singular) are fluid filled sacs that cushion and protect joints from repeated movement of muscles and tendons over joints. Joint pain can also be caused by illnesses such as: gout, flu, Lyme's disease, lupus and Epstein Barr Syndrome. Chiropractic care can help ease the pain and stiffness caused by joint inflammation.
